Up and out of the ground came a birth of a new cicada. This is kind of a special occasion and gathered a bit of a crowd. The female cicada lays around half a thousand eggs which drop to the ground. The eggs hatch then the bubs burrow into the ground then live there for seven years. After this seven year period is up, they dig an exit hole with their strong front digging legs, climb a tree, shed their skins then emerge as new cicadas to start the new seven year cycle. I was lucky to see this one. It should be hatched tomorrow.

A couple of friends I made in Korea came to help out. We met in the Beewan guest house in Angik. It was really good to see them again. Right now they are hard at work preparing for a nagashi somen party in which noodles are streamed down a split bamboo shoot. You have to catch the noodles or you'll go hungry.
